Mason County has formally adopted its updated Shoreline Master Program (SMP), which regulates land use and development within 200 feet from rivers, lakes, and marine shorelines. Mason County has over 709 miles of shoreline that are protected by the Washington State Shoreline Management Act (SMA) and by the Mason County SMP.

After six years, countless public meetings and workshops and four public hearings, the Board of County Commissioners adopted an Ordinance that repeals and replaces the Shoreline Master Program (Title 17.50), Environmental Designations Map, Resource Ordinance (Title 8.52) and the Development Code (Title 15).

The Washington State Department of Ecology (ECY) has given its formal approval of the County’s SMP, siting consistency with RCW 90.58 (The SMA). Check HERE for details. The updated regulations take effect October 2, 2017.
