While we may believe that access to health care plays the largest role in our level of health, there are actually a wide variety of factors that impact our overall health and well-being. These factors include things like the environment we live in, the foods we eat, our level of physical activity, and our genetics. Research shows that clinical care, such as access to doctors, medical coverage, and quality of care, only accounts for 20% of our predicted health. There are three categories of factors that have been shown to most significantly influence our health:

  1. Health behaviors and choices
  2. Environmental factors
  3. Social and economic conditions

These factors not only affect our own health, but also affect the health of our families and our whole community. We all have a voice and role in working together to shape the place we work, play, and live as a community!
