Fleas and Ticks
Fleas are abundant in Washington State. They are found primarily during the spring, summer, and fall months and thrive in warm, humid environments. Fleas can transmit plague from infected rodents to humans.
Ticks are most common during the spring and summer months. They can be found in forested areas, tall grass, and brush. Once a tick has found a host, they crawl to find a spot to feed. In Washington there are few tick-borne diseases. The most known ones are anaplasmosis, babesiosis, Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tick-borne relapsing fever, tick paralysis, and Tularemia.
