The judges and court commissioners are prohibited under the Canons of Judicial Conduct from discussing matters pertaining to a case without all parties involved in the case being present.  Writing letters or talking with a judge is prohibited under the same Code of Judicial Conduct because they cannot discuss matters pertaining to a case without all parties involved in the case being present.

Also, the Code of Judicial Conduct specifically prohibits a judge from making any public comment while a proceeding is pending in any court.

The judges can only respond to matters that are noted properly on the court docket after proper notice is given to all parties.  The judges cannot respond to individual requests by letter.
